Goal

The suspended micro particles in the atmosphere (aerosol) have very broad effects on the environment. According to related studies, the micro particles in the atmosphere affect areas such as visibility, the increase in acid rain, changes in the weather and climate, changes in the sun's radiation, increase in the health risk of humans...and others. The physics and chemical characteristics of suspended micro particles provides a way to confirm the forming mechanisms and source of micro particles and if we can couple that with the factors of change in the atmosphere, it is possible to understand the impact and effect of micro particles from various sources on the environment and ecology.

Super monitoring stations are central stations that combine the abilities of peripheral stations. They are able to use intense and technologically advanced detection methods. For instance, the continuous automatic instrument can perform measurements of the atmosphere's micro particle density, particle diameter dispersion, carbon content, sulfur nitrate, nitrate, astigmatism coefficient, black carbon concentration (absorption coefficient)...and other measurements related to the physical and chemical properties of particles to provide data that cannot be obtained in regular monitoring stations. It can continuously take samples and analyze the chemical composition (e.g. carbon content, sulfur nitrate, nitrate, and others), organic chemical content, and micro particle dispersion from ultra fine to 10μm. This information, when combined with important gas composition data can help explain the creation and removal process of micro particles and ozone.

The purpose of planning and constructing the “micro particle super monitoring statio” is to consolidate the current automatic monitoring instruments in service to continuously monitor the characteristics of micro particles in order to further understand their physical and chemical properties. Asidfrom providing an understanding changes in the levels of micro particle properties, monitoring results can also help us understand the relationship between the pollution sources and their receivers to begin health risk analysis studies. If much monitoring data and related information can be gathered, it will be a great boon to understanding the dynamic relationship between pollution sources and their receivers so as to establish policies and regulations specific to micro particles.
